International Management Visit

France

The International Management Visit is a key feature of the Glasgow Caledonian MBA, which usually occurs in June. The full time course fee covers all travel and accommodation costs for the visit. Students on the part time route have the option of joining for a supplemental fee. In recent years, the programme has gone to Spain, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Italy.

Purpose of visit

The International Management Visit helped me understand the real business environment in the European market.
Enrique Cervantes, MBA Graduate, Mexico

The International Management Visit gives you the opportunity to understand some of the key drivers of globalisation through hosted visits to major multi-national businesses across Europe. Previous visits have focused on major automobile manufacturing centres, leaders of the computing industry, globalisation within the fashion industry, and local businesses in the food sector.

Crucially, the International Management Visit accelerates understanding of the dynamics of the European and global economy by providing you with direct interaction with local managerial staff and academics with contrasting perspectives and on occasion the officials of international agencies (WTO, ILO, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, etc). MBA participants prepare for these encounters and are responsible for managing interactions with host organisations as members of teams. On return to CBS there is a debriefing workshop to evaluate what has been learned. There is also a requirement to make formal assessed presentations and an individual report.

The exact activities undertaken each year vary according to local and international events but the course team is committed to delivering a highly relevant learning experience within those externally imposed limitations.

Slovenian experience

Our study visit in 2007 was to Slovenia. This visit offered an insight into Slovenia’s successful adjustment to a market economy following the restructuring of Europe post-1989. Its accession to the European Union provided fascinating insights into global geo-political processes and more local issues of national development.

Student feedback

Students have repeatedly praised these highly successful visits as a highlight of our MBA. Emphasising the following benefits from the visit:

  • concentrated exposure to a business and academic culture which contrasts with both their own country and that of UK
  • significant improvement in their confidence in dealing with international and cross-cultural issues
  • attraction to potential employers after graduation

Visa requirement

Please note to participate in the study visit you must have a passport and British education visa which does not expire until a minimum of six months following the visit.

There may also be other specific advice regarding visa requirements which will be provided to students who are accepted onto the MBA programme in response to changing diplomatic requirements. The MBA staff monitor these matters and will advise successful applicants to assist them in gaining entry to the destination in question.

Please contact us if you have specific questions about your visa situation.
